Thymus pulegioides, common names broad-leaved thyme or lemon thyme, is a species of flowering plant in the family Lamiaceae, native to Europe.
Evergreen perennial growing to 35cm. This variety is a lemon scented thyme with small broad aromatic dark green leaves that can be picked as needed. Great for flavouring almost anything including meat, fish, soups and stews. Can be used fresh or dried. Attracts bees. Good for borders, rock gardens and pots.
GROW: Gently scatter seeds over the soil in the container you will be planting thyme seeds. Next, gently scatter soil over the seeds. Water thoroughly. Cover with plastic wrap. Place the container in a warm location. Seeds will germinate in 1 to 12 weeks. Once thyme seedlings are 4 inches (10 cm) plant out.
HARVEST: Thyme is an evergreen perennial, so leaves can be picked fresh all year round. However, the best time to pick thyme is in early summer, when the plant is at its most productive, before flowering. Dry or use fresh.
USE: As a culinary herb. Thyme is taken by mouth for bronchitis, whooping cough, sore throat, colic, arthritis, upset stomach, stomach pain (gastritis), diarrhea, bedwetting, a movement disorder in children (dyspraxia), intestinal gas (flatulence), parasitic worm infections, and skin disorders.
